By his involvement with the culture of resting since the Romans and observation of people lying Philipp Aduatz expressed his ideas in this object.
The result is the dormeuse, an object that can be used for seating as well as for resting, or a mixture of these two.
The sculptural and opulent shape is correlating with a cellular load bearing system. In the past years the Industrial Design sector has developed a trend for using structures that are related to those appearing in nature. These structures are optimized load bearing systems that have a low density at a maximum load capacity.
Philipp Aduatz chose for his object the material GFRP – a glassfiber reinforced polymer. So the object brings the load capacity of the material to its limits.
The Dormeuse was the artist´s diploma project at the University of applied Arts in Vienna.
